Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign forward Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, in what represents a record transfer in the history of British football.
The current Premier League champions have had a bid of £125 million ($170 million) accepted to secure the services of the Swedish international. Isak is expected to undergo a medical before the transfer deadline on Monday at 7 p.m. BST, 2 p.m. ET.
This operation ends one of the longest transfer sagas of the summer, with Isak pushing for his departure from Newcastle for more than a month.
The 25-year-old player did not participate in the club’s pre-season tour of the Far East and has not played with Eddie Howe’s team this season.
Earlier this month, Isak released a statement claiming that Newcastle’s management had “broken promises” and insisted that a transfer this summer would be best for all parties.
