Liverpool coach Arne Slot has expressed his surprise at the physical condition of striker Alexander Isak during his debut against Atletico Madrid. The Swedish international played 58 minutes in Liverpool’s 3-2 victory before being substituted by Hugo Ekitike, another summer signing. Isak joined the Premier League champion from Newcastle United on the last day of the transfer market for a record fee of £125 million (171 million dollars) and is still in the process of reaching his best physical form after an interrupted pre-season.
Slot added that Isak proved to be a “joy to watch” player and that, although he exceeded expectations regarding his physical condition, the team will have to manage his participation due to the pace of matches. The coach also highlighted the quality of the team’s two center forwards, indicating that both will have an important role during the season. In the 60 minutes he played, I thought he was in pretty good shape. It wasn’t as if he was already very tired after 10 minutes. He was able to play at this level quite well after one or two weeks of team sessions.
