Jack Eichel and the Golden Knights agree to a millionaire extension

Jack Eichel and the Vegas Golden Knights have reached an agreement for an eight-year extension, with an average annual value of $13.5 million.

The agreement was finalized a few hours before the Golden Knights began their season on Wednesday night, facing the Los Angeles Kings in Las Vegas.

Negotiations between Eichel’s team and the Golden Knights intensified during training camp, with both sides focused on securing a long-term deal before the start of the season.

Eichel, 28, was entering the final year of an eight-year contract with a $10 million impact, which he originally signed with the Buffalo Sabres, the team that drafted him.

Buffalo traded Eichel to the Golden Knights in 2021.

The American center contributed to Vegas winning its first Stanley Cup in 2023, after scoring 26 points in 22 games during the postseason. Eichel is already one of six players named to the U.S. Team for the 2026 Olympic Games in Milan.

The Golden Knights are expected to be Stanley Cup contenders, especially after the addition of winger Mitch Marner this summer. Eichel and Marner are expected to play together on Vegas’s first line in their opening game against the Kings.
