Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Receives Honors in Hamilton After NBA Success
NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was recognized with the key to the city of Hamilton by Mayor Andrea Horwath, at a public event held at Hamilton Stadium. The mayor also announced that a street will bear the name of the Oklahoma City Thunder star, in recognition of his outstanding season, culminating in the NBA championship.The player expressed his pride in representing Hamilton, highlighting the unique qualities of the city and its people.“I grew up traveling the world, to countless states, cities, and countries, and I was always asked where I was from,” Gilgeous-Alexander told the crowd gathered in the north zone after raising the NBA champion trophy. “I was proud to let everyone know that I was from Hamilton.”

Gilgeous-Alexander was honored at the stadium on Thursday night, before the second quarter of the CFL game between the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and the B.C. Lions.“Hamilton is unlike any other city in Ontario. The people of Hamilton have a different sense of grit, determination, pride, and energy than the rest of the province, and honestly, I couldn’t help but catch it. I carry that with me every day and everywhere, so you can only imagine how much overwhelming joy there was when I found out I was going to receive the key to the city I love and a street with my name on it.”
