Walker Extends Streak, Leads Cardinals Over Guardians
Gardener Jordan Walker continues to be hot with the bat, extending his streak of consecutive games hitting to 11, which boosted the St. Louis Cardinals’ offense in their 5-3 victory over the Cleveland Guardians this Wednesday.
Walker hit a crucial double in the eighth inning, maintaining his impressive performance. Nathan Church shone with three hits and Alec Burleson drove in two important runs to secure St. Louis’s victory.
Dustin May (2-2) had a solid performance from the mound, pitching six innings in which he allowed one run, six hits, and struck out four batters. Riley O’Brien closed out the game without problems in the ninth inning, earning his fifth save of the season.
The game was decided in the sixth inning, when a sacrifice fly by JJ Wetherholt and a two-run single by Burleson broke the tie, giving the home team the definitive lead.
For his part, Dominican José Ramírez reached a historic milestone for the Guardians, by consuming his 6,040th at-bat in the Major Leagues, setting a new franchise record.
Despite Ramírez’s achievement, the Guardians suffered their second consecutive defeat. Starting pitcher Slade Cecconi had control issues, giving up five walks in four innings.
With this victory, the Cardinals show a good offensive performance, led by a Walker in excellent form, while Cleveland seeks to regain its rhythm.
