Concern for the condition of the Quisqueya Stadium’s grass

Santo Domingo – The current condition of the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium’s grass has raised concerns following the dissemination of images revealing a notable deterioration in the playing surface. The situation has sparked questions about the maintenance of the field, especially after a significant investment made recently. Less than two months ago, state authorities and Major League Baseball (MLB) invested around USD$500,000 to prepare the field. This investment was part of the preparations for the Dominican team’s exhibition games on their way to the World Baseball Classic. The purpose of this intervention was to ensure optimal conditions for high-level games and improve the quality of the field, considered a key scenario for baseball in the country. However, the current state of the grass has reignited the debate about the maintenance and durability of the improvements, especially since the stadium will be one of the main venues for the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games.

So far, no official report has been published explaining the causes of the deterioration or the possible actions to solve the situation of the land.
