Santo Domingo, DR. The NBA star, Karl-Anthony Towns, has expressed his unconditional support for the stellar Dominican baseball player Ketel Marte, following an unfortunate incident where Marte was the victim of an offensive and cruel comment from a fan. The incident took place on the playing field, plunging the baseball player into a deep state of sadness. The incident occurred during the Tuesday, June 24th game between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Chicago White Sox. A fan from the stands uttered hurtful words about Marte’s mother, who tragically passed away in a traffic accident in 2017. Towns, who also suffered the loss of his mother in 2020 due to COVID-19, used his account on the social network X (formerly Twitter) to send a message of solidarity that quickly spread:

Some things should never be said. @ketel_marte4, your mother is proud, and so are we.

Mars’ reaction was immediate and full of emotion. Visibly affected, he covered his face while receiving the support of teammates and rivals. Miguel Vargas, of the White Sox, was one of those who gave him a hug.

MLB Condemnation and the Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks organization issued a statement rejecting the fan’s behavior, reaffirming its commitment to respect in the stadiums.

We will not tolerate any kind of disrespect towards our players or their families. Baseball must be a safe space for everyone.

The incident sparked a wave of support for the player, who that night managed to hit his 15th home run of the season, despite the difficult emotional moment.
