Thamba sentence victory of Metros over Soles in an exciting duel
SAN PEDRO DE MACORÍS. – A precise shot by Florent Thamba, made with only 5.5 seconds on the clock, secured the victory for the Metros de Santiago, who prevailed 87-86 against the Soles del Este in a vibrant regular season match of the LNB Super League, held at the Rolando Ramírez sports complex.
The decisive play originated after a side throw, where Thamba received the ball and did not hesitate to execute the shot that gave the victory to the Santiagueros. With this result, the Metros consolidate their performance, reaching a record of 7-1 and tying at the top of the tournament. For their part, the Soles remain in last position with a record of 1-6.
The Santiago team staged a spectacular comeback, overturning a 17-point deficit in the third quarter and a six-point deficit in the final minute. Defensive intensity was crucial, as were the home team’s errors from the free-throw line, who missed 14 attempts, including four consecutive ones at the end of the game.
In the offensive aspect, Anthony Fairley stood out for the Metros with 21 points, followed by Oliver García with 19 and Raimer Santana with 13. Jordan Hall contributed 10 points, while Thamba added nine points and five rebounds.
By the Soles, Jonathan Bello led the attack with 19 points. Terry Larrier added 14, debutant Levil Bradley Jr. finished with 13 and Jean Carlo Quezada contributed 11 units.
The game experienced a significant change in the third period, when the Metros, driven by Garcia and Santana from the bench, reduced the large disadvantage with a partial score of 31-14, tying the score 67-67.
In the first half, the Suns dominated after a 15-2 run in the second quarter, which allowed them to go into halftime with a 53-36 lead, thanks to an aggressive defense that caused numerous turnovers in the opponent.
