Kelvin Cruz Delivers RD$150 Million to the COD for the 2026 Games
The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, finalized the delivery of RD$150 million to the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD). This sum corresponds to the last installment destined for the preparation of the athletes who will represent the country in the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. With this delivery, the total amount allocated for this purpose amounts to RD$893.7 million. During the event, Cruz presented a symbolic check to the president of the COD, Garibaldy Bautista. These resources are crucial for strengthening the preparation and assembly of the Dominican delegation that will compete in the regional event.Bautista thanked the support received and highlighted that these funds will allow to continue promoting the preparation of Dominican athletes for the regional event. One of the main objectives is to surpass the 111 medals obtained in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games. From January 2025, the Ministry of Sports doubled the salary of athletes in the national teams, with the purpose of ensuring better conditions for their preparation and avoiding setbacks during competitions. The XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 will take place from July 24 to August 8, bringing together about 850 Dominican athletes and international delegations from approximately 36 countries.“Today we are just delivering the sum of 150 million and it is already in the Committee’s account,” Cruz expressed.
