Kelvin Cruz Delivers RD$150 Million to the COD for the 2026 Games
Santo Domingo – Sports Minister Kelvin Cruz handed over RD$150 million to the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) this Wednesday. This sum corresponds to the fifth and final installment destined for the preparation of the athletes who will represent the Dominican Republic in the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. With this installment, the total amount allocated for the preparation of athletes amounts to RD$893.7 million. Cruz presented a symbolic check to the president of the COD, Garibaldy Bautista, in an event where governmental support for high-performance athletes was highlighted.Garibaldy Bautista, for his part, thanked for the support received and pointed out that these resources will be fundamental to strengthen the preparation of Dominican athletes for the regional event. One of the main goals is to surpass the 111 medals obtained in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games. From January 2025, the Ministry of Sports has doubled the salary of athletes in the national teams to ensure better preparation conditions. The XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 will take place from July 24 to August 8 and will feature the participation of approximately 850 Dominican athletes, in addition to international delegations from about 36 countries.“Today we are just delivering the sum of 150 million and it is already in the Committee’s account,” Cruz affirmed during the event.
