London – The Premier League, despite a generally quiet winter market, has once again demonstrated its economic power. English league clubs have invested a considerable sum, consolidating their position as the strongest football competition worldwide. The total investment of English clubs in this transfer period reached 390 million pounds (450 million euros), a figure very similar to that of the previous year.

Comparison of Spending in the Transfer Market

Compared to other leagues, the Premier League stands out for its spending capacity. The Italian Serie A is in second place with spending close to 240 million, followed by the Brazilian championship with 200 million. The Spanish league, meanwhile, is in eighth place, with an investment of only 75 million. Even MLS has surpassed Spanish clubs in terms of spending during this market.

Manchester City: Leading the Spending

Manchester City has once again been the most active club in the market, investing in key reinforcements. Among its acquisitions are Antoine Semenyo, for 72 million, and Marc Guéhi, for 23 million. In addition, the club recovered several young players on loan. The City’s strategy focused on strengthening its squad for the second half of the season, especially in defense and attack. To finance part of these acquisitions, the club sold Oscar Bobb to Fulham for 31 million.

Other Teams and Their Movements

The Crystal Palace also made significant investments, spending 50 million on Jorgen Strand Larsen and 40 million on Brennan Johnson. The Londoners tried to sell Jean-Phillipe Mateta to Milan, but the deal did not go through due to a problem in the medical examination. Regarding the big clubs, Tottenham Hotspur reinforced their midfield with Conor Gallagher, coming from Atletico Madrid for 40 million, and the full-back with Souza (15 million). Chelsea recovered some loaned players, while Arsenal and Manchester United did not make significant moves. Liverpool secured the signing of French defender Jeremy Jacquet for 70 million, although the player will join the team in the summer and will remain at Rennes until then. West Ham United sold Lucas Paquetá to Flamengo for 40 million, which allowed them to finance a large part of their expenses in the market. In short, the total sales of the Premier League exceeded 300 million, with Bournemouth being the club that generated the most revenue from sales.
