Noboa, Infantino, and Domínguez: A Key Meeting for South American Football

In a high-level meeting, the President of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, met this Thursday with Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, and Alejandro Domínguez, head of Conmebol, at the Carondelet Palace, headquarters of the Ecuadorian Government, in Quito. The meeting, which was held in private, was attended by Francisco Egas, president of the Ecuadorian Football Federation.

After the meeting, Domínguez highlighted the historic participation of six South American teams in the next World Cup.

Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Uruguay will be the region’s representatives in the next edition of the World Cup, which will begin on June 11. The South American leader also emphasized the continuous progress of football in the region during the last decade. He pointed out that Conmebol has invested more than 3.1 billion dollars in associations, clubs and competitions, an unprecedented figure in its management. Furthermore, he highlighted the global influence of the continental tournaments, indicating that the finals of the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana recorded a combined audience of 749 million viewers. Domínguez is in Quito for the 82nd Ordinary Congress of Conmebol, where representatives from the ten South American federations meet to address the development and future of football in the region.
