Lindor to the Injured List: A New Setback for the Mets

NEW YORK – The New York Mets have suffered a tough blow. Just one day before Juan Soto’s return, the team has placed star shortstop Francisco Lindor on the 10-day injured list due to a left calf strain.

Lindor’s injury occurred while running the bases during the 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins, a triumph that ended a 12-game losing streak for the Mets. In response to this absence, the team has called up Dominican infielder Ronny Mauricio from Triple-A.

This setback comes at an inopportune moment for Lindor, who was showing improvement in his offensive performance after a slow start to the season. In his last five games, Lindor batted .412 with seven hits in 17 at-bats, including a home run, a double, and four RBIs. So far this season, his offensive line is .226/.314/.355.

The absence of the Puerto Rican shortstop will force the Mets to readjust their infield.

One option is to move Bo Bichette back to shortstop, a position he occupied in the final stretch of the previous game, or keep him at third base and give more prominence to Mauricio, who was excelling in the minor leagues with a .293 average and a .987 OPS.

Mauricio arrives at a good moment, after connecting three home runs in a game in Triple-A Syracuse and previously contributing a decisive hit in a brief stint with the big team at the beginning of the month.

For the Mets, the situation represents a new challenge in the midst of an irregular season, in which they must now compensate for the loss of one of their main figures, just as they were getting Soto back to reinforce the lineup.
