SANTO DOMINGO, RD – Journalist José P. Monegro, director of the newspaper, was honored this Friday during the inauguration of the 2025 National Minibasketball Convivium. This event, dedicated to Monegro, brings together the 12 best teams in the country. The protocol ceremony took place at the Horacio Muratore National Minibasketball House, located in the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. It was headed by engineer Rafael Uribe, president of the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal), along with the Immortal of Sport and Vice Minister of Sports, Fernando Teruel, president of the National Minibasket Commission. The recognition was presented to Monegro by Uribe and Teruel, with the company of Alberto Rodríguez, executive director of the National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI); Andrés Vanderhorts, former Secretary of Sports; and Junior Páez, vice president of Fedombal. Also present were the Immortals of Sport Evaristo Pérez, as well as Fausto Paulino and Luis Minier, presidents of the basketball associations of San Pedro de Macorís and Montecristi, respectively.

In expressing his gratitude for the dedication of the Convivio, Monegro thanked the organizers, leaders, and athletes of national minibasketball.
José Monegro, who is the former president of the National District Basketball Association (Abadina), significantly boosted the development of mini-basketball during his tenure. He currently chairs the Organizing Committee of the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. During the event, Rafael Uribe, Fernando Teruel, and Alberto Rodríguez agreed in pointing out that mini-basketball, at the ages of 11 and 12 years old, is fundamental for the future of Dominican basketball and the formation of better citizens. Uribe announced that from this Convivio, 25 children will be selected to be part of the Formative Categories National Teams Project, from which the future U15, U17, U19 teams and the senior national team will emerge. The sports oath was taken by the child Elián Benet Aracena, representative of the National District. All games of the 2025 National Minibasketball Convivio will be broadcast simultaneously on YouTube, from the three available courts, through the official Fedombal TV channel.Division by groups
