MIAMI – Venezuelan outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. was removed from the game between the Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins on Thursday, as a precaution, due to discomfort in his left thumb. This situation arose just three days after his return from the injured list. Acuña, a key figure for the Braves, left the game in the fifth inning. He was seen talking to the medical staff and checking his left hand before leaving the field. He was replaced in right field by Eli White. Before leaving, Acuña had an outstanding offensive performance, connecting two hits in three at-bats, including a single and a ground ball that drove in two runs. This game represented only his second return to defensive action, as he had previously acted as a designated hitter during the series.

Gerrit Cole ready to return

Meanwhile, in New York, the Yankees are preparing for the return of their right-handed pitcher Gerrit Cole, who will pitch again in the Major Leagues this Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays. This will be his first appearance after an absence of 569 days. Cole, Cy Young Award winner, stated he felt in optimal condition to compete again, after completing his rehabilitation process. During this process, he managed to reach speeds close to 100 miles per hour.

What I look forward to most is competing again on the highest stage.

Key Yankees Moves

The Yankees are also dealing with several important internal changes, particularly at the shortstop position. Panamanian José Caballero gained prominence before suffering a fracture in a finger on his right hand. Caballero’s injury allowed Anthony Volpe to return as a starter, which poses a difficult decision for the Yankees on how to distribute playing time when Caballero recovers. Manager Aaron Boone acknowledged Caballero’s importance to the team, highlighting his defense and offensive production. On the other hand, Jazz Chisholm Jr. is performing well offensively, using looser pants borrowed from Giancarlo Stanton, who is still recovering from a calf injury. Catcher Austin Wells admitted to going through a complicated moment in terms of his offense, although he maintains his focus on his defensive performance. Finally, the Yankees continue to seek solutions to strengthen their bullpen, which has shown inconsistency in recent weeks, especially after the performances of relievers like David Bednar and Camilo Doval.
