CHARLOTTE – Motorsports is in mourning following the passing of Kyle Busch, an emblematic name in the history of the NASCAR Cup Series. Busch, a two-time champion of the category, left an indelible mark on the world of motorsports. The news of his death, which occurred this Thursday at the age of 41, was confirmed by his family, NASCAR, and the Richard Childress Racing team. Hours earlier, his hospitalization due to a serious illness had been reported.

During his 22 seasons in NASCAR’s top category, Busch achieved two Cup Series championships, in 2015 and 2019. In addition, he accumulated 63 victories, solidifying himself as one of the most successful drivers in the history of the competition. His dominance extended to other NASCAR categories, setting records with 102 wins in the current O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and 69 victories in the Craftsman Truck Series.

A Legendary Career

Born on May 2, 1985, in Las Vegas, Kyle Busch grew up in an environment linked to motorsports, sharing his passion with his brother Kurt Busch, a member of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. His rise was remarkable. He debuted with Hendrick Motorsports before becoming a superstar, especially during his time with Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota. There, he garnered the majority of his victories and forged one of the most recognized partnerships in the sport, driving the iconic number 18 car sponsored by M&M’s. In 2023, he joined Richard Childress Racing, driving the number 8 Chevrolet, marking the beginning of the final stage of his career, characterized by successes and a strong connection with the fans. Known as “Rowdy” for his aggressive style and challenging personality, Busch became a polarizing figure, loved by his followers and criticized by his detractors. In addition to his achievements as a driver, he left a legacy as the owner of Kyle Busch Motorsports, where he fostered young talent and won multiple championships in the Truck Series. His last Cup Series win was on June 4, 2023, at Gateway. A Busch is survived by his wife, Samantha, his children Brexton and Lennix, as well as his parents and his brother Kurt.
