Inaugurate Volleyball Pavilion at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center
The Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED), Víctor – Ito – Bisonó, led the inauguration of the Volleyball Practice Pavilion at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. This important work is part of the sports infrastructures that are being built for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. The new pavilion, which includes a gym, practice courts, a medical consultation room, and cafeterias, among other areas, was handed over to the Ministry of Sports, the Organizing Committee of the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, and the Dominican Olympic Committee. These entities will be in charge of ensuring the proper maintenance of the facilities for their continuous use in national and international sporting events.The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, highlighted that the delivery of the pavilion demonstrates the fulfillment of the work schedule established for the games. In addition, he announced a permanent session at the Olympic Center and the Parque del Este to ensure the timely delivery of the other facilities. José P. Monegro, president of the Organizing Committee of the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, highlighted the importance of this delivery for Dominican sports and its international projection. The project encompassed an intervention of more than 6,000 square meters, including practice courts of 2,300.95 m² and stands with a capacity for 1,240 people. The work carried out by the MIVHED included the installation of lighting systems with levels of up to 1200 lux, general painting, improvements to the roof structure, electrical and sanitary installations, fire detection systems, and adaptation of the electrical power. An aluzinc roof with insulation and waterproofing was also installed, and maintenance of the metal structure was carried out. The Volleyball Practice Pavilion has offices, mixed bathrooms and changing rooms, warehouses, parking lots, dormitories, medical area, rest area, gym, cafeterias, public address system and video surveillance systems (CCTV). These facilities comply with international regulations for high-performance sports and are fundamental for the preparation of modern sports venues in the Dominican Republic. In the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, the Aquatic Center and the Fencing Pavilion have already been delivered, while in the Parque del Este the archery facilities, the gymnastics pavilion, table tennis and weightlifting have been delivered. Various personalities from the sports and governmental fields accompanied Minister Ito Bisonó at the inauguration.We are intervening in facilities, modernizing spaces, and raising standards, because the country is preparing and doing it the right way. As we have reiterated on multiple occasions, these works not only respond to the commitment to the event, but also represent a lasting investment for the strengthening of Dominican sports, for the benefit of developing athletes and future generations.
