Miderec and MIVED to Supervise the Volleyball Palace
Santo Domingo – The Ministries of Sports and Recreation (Miderec) and Housing (MIVED) will take the reins of monitoring the management of the Volleyball Palace. This change occurs while the reconstruction of the venue is paused to make way for the National District Basketball Tournament, organized by the National District Basketball Association (Abadina). The MIVED has made adjustments to the installation to facilitate the celebration of the capital’s superior basketball tournament. This is because the Palacio de los Deportes “Virgilio Travieso Soto” is undergoing remodeling and is not available for use. According to an official statement, the remodeling work will resume once the tournament is over. The objective is to condition the Palace for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, which will take place from July 24 to August 8 of next year. Once the works are finished, the MIVED and Miderec will hand over the administration of the Palace to the recently created Volunteer group for its care. The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, highlighted the effort made to allow the district tournament to be held. He also reminded Abadina and the Basketball Tournament Organizing Committee of their commitment to properly use and preserve the facilities. The information was released after a meeting between ministers Kelvin Cruz (Sports), José Ignacio Paliza (Presidency, and president of the Organizing Committee), and the vice minister of MIVED, Ney Rafael García, representing minister Carlos Bonilla. In the meeting, held in Minister Cruz’s office, Rafael Uribe, president of the Dominican Basketball Federation, and Nelson Ramírez, technical director of the event, were also present. The Volleyball Palace is undergoing a major renovation by the Ministry of Housing, in preparation for the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games.A great effort has been made to open a space for the district tournament.
