Mbappé is approaching France’s top scorers
The Real Madrid striker, Kylian Mbappé, continues his rise in the history of French football. After scoring the first goal in France’s victory over Germany (0-2) in the Nations League third-place match, Mbappé now has 50 goals for the national team, in 90 matches played. Mbappé is just one goal away from equaling Thierry Henry, who ended his career with 51 goals for the national team. Likewise, he is seven goals behind Olivier Giroud, France’s all-time top scorer, with 57. The French captain, who debuted on March 25, 2017, against Luxembourg, has demonstrated an impressive goal-scoring ability. He is the player who needed the fewest matches to reach 50 goals with the “Les Bleus” jersey. Henry needed 113 matches and Giroud, 115. In his 90 matches, 76 as a starter, Mbappé has scored 50 goals and provided 36 assists. He has a total of 44 goals this season, between those scored with the national team and Real Madrid, where he was proclaimed LaLiga’s top scorer and won the Golden Boot.The white attacker took advantage of the Nations League to break a goal drought, scoring against Spain and Germany. His last goal with France before the recent ones was on June 25, 2024, in the final phase of the European Championship against Poland.
Mbappé’s first goal with the French national team came on August 31, 2017, in the 4-0 victory against the Netherlands, in a World Cup qualifying match. In that match, he replaced Olivier Giroud.
