Jimmy Cordero: New Stage with the Gigantes del Cibao

Santo Domingo.- Pitcher Jimmy Cordero offered his first statements as a member of the Gigantes del Cibao, after being traded by the Leones del Escogido. The change, although unexpected, finds him motivated and grateful.

Really, yes, I didn’t expect to be part of a change. I stayed in the organization for a long time because of how well we got along and the good treatment. But this is a business and any modification always goes towards improving the team.

Cordero highlighted the fluidity of his integration into the team, thanks to the previous relationship with several players and members of the coaching staff.

This has been an exemplary, top-notch welcome. Most of us know each other from the league, we’ve been together before on different teams. It’s been a good start and it’s really what I expected.

The manager of the Escogido, Carlos Peña, was the one who informed Cordero about the transaction. The pitcher highlighted the importance of a formal farewell.

It was expected to be him, especially after hearing rumors. I spent a lot of time with them and a text message is not enough. A formal farewell was needed. All that cost, because there is mutual affection.

Playing at the Quisqueya stadium with a new jersey is an emotional process that Cordero handles with maturity.

Emotions are a sense apart. I can’t get carried away by sadness or happiness. I spent a lot of time with them, but I must keep emotions under control because this game depends on that too. Of course there is a little sadness, but this is a business and you have to move on.

Despite not having a statistically outstanding season, Cordero doesn’t feel additional pressure with his arrival at the Giants.

One continues with the same mission and the same plan, to give 100% in every opportunity. It could serve as a boost, but in the end it’s the same game, only the team changes. There is nothing to prove. We already know each other and we just have to move forward and do our best.
