PHOENIX – Dominicans Ketel Marte and Geraldo Perdomo led the Arizona Diamondbacks’ attack, who defeated the San Francisco Giants 6-3, thus ensuring the sweep in the three-game series.
Ketel Marte continued his offensive streak by hitting a two-run home run in the third inning, adding his second home run in consecutive nights. The infielder had an outstanding day, scoring three runs, getting on base four times, and being a triple away from completing the cycle.
The player, three-time All-Star, is experiencing one of his best offensive moments of the season, after having decided Tuesday’s game with a three-run home run in the ninth inning.
Geraldo Perdomo also played a crucial role, driving in three runs, including a two-run double in the fifth inning that extended Arizona’s lead to 6-3.
Kelly Secures Victory from the Mound
Starting pitcher Merrill Kelly worked six innings, allowing three runs and eight hits, earning him the win and his third consecutive quality start. The right-hander was coming off pitching the first complete game of his career last week against Colorado.
Arizona, in a great moment, has won four games in a row and five of their last six commitments. Paul Sewald closed the game in the ninth inning, obtaining his eleventh save of the season.
San Francisco took the lead early thanks to a home run by Casey Schmitt in the first inning, but couldn’t stop the Diamondbacks’ offense.
Tyler Mahle, the losing pitcher, allowed six runs and eight hits in five innings of work. The Giants have lost six of their last eight games.
