SANTO DOMINGO, RD. – Gilberto Soriano Román has been elected as the new president of the Dominican Fencing Federation for the period 2026-2030.
The election took place this Saturday at the Club Los Prados, where Soriano received the support of eight of the thirteen associations entitled to vote.
Soriano, who was previously a member of the national fencing team and currently presides over the Dominican Sports Law Association, obtained eight votes in the electoral process.
Transparent Electoral Process
The electoral assembly was chaired by journalist Juan Mercado, accompanied by jurists Richard Martínez and César Alcántara, who formed the Electoral Commission. The transparency of the process was certified by public notary Alexander Efraín Soto Ovalle.
The plaque named “Esgrimista Brotherhood” was the one that obtained the support of the associations of Santiago, Puerto Plata, San Pedro de Macorís, Hermanas Mirabal, Samaná, Azua, Santo Domingo and the National District.
The associations of La Vega, San Francisco de Macorís, San Juan de la Maguana, Elías Piña and La Romana did not participate in the voting.

The new Steering Committee of the Dominican Fencing Federation was constituted as follows:

Commitment to Fencing Development
During his speech, Soriano emphasized his commitment to strengthening the federation’s institutional framework, developing high-performance sports, training new talents, and expanding the territorial reach of fencing in the country.
Furthermore, he emphasized that his management will focus on promoting unity among all sectors linked to this sport.
The new president emphasized that the administration will be based on principles of transparency, strategic planning, and respect for sports regulations, with the aim of consolidating the administrative structure of the federation, boosting competitive growth, and projecting Dominican fencing internationally.
With the election of the new board, the Dominican Fencing Federation begins a stage focused on institutional modernization and the strengthening of the sport.
