Guadalajara, Mexico. – In a display of dominance on the mound, Enny Romero led the Leones del Escogido, representatives of the Dominican Republic, to a victory over the Cangrejeros de Santurce of Puerto Rico in the Caribbean Series Jalisco 2026. The final score was 5-3, thus consolidating the undefeated status of the Dominican team.
The left-handed Romero had an outstanding performance, allowing only three hits in five innings of work. This performance was key to securing the Dominicans’ second victory in the tournament, who now lead the standings with a 2-0 record. For their part, Puerto Rico has a 1-1 record.
The Leones del Escogido’s offensive set the tone from the start of the game, scoring three runs in the first inning against starting pitcher Daryl Thompson.
Gustavo Núñez started the attack with a single and a stolen base, followed by a walk to Sócrates Brito. Junior Lake drove in the first run with a single to left field. Cristian Adames hit a double that drove in Brito and advanced Lake, who scored thanks to a sacrifice fly by Aderlin Rodríguez.
In the second inning, the Dominican offense added another run thanks to a double by Erik González, which allowed Marco Hernández to score. In the fifth episode, Adames was again the protagonist with another double, driving in Lake for the Lions’ fifth run.
Puerto Rico tried to react with three runs in the sixth inning, but it wasn’t enough to change the course of the game.
Daryl Thompson took the loss, while Jimmy Cordero secured the victory by pitching the ninth inning, achieving his second save of the tournament.
Cristian Adames was the offensive figure of the game, batting 2-3 with two doubles, two RBIs, a walk, and a stolen base. Junior Lake contributed an RBI, two runs scored, and a walk, and Socrates Brito hit a triple, scored a run, and received two walks. Erik Gonzalez also contributed with a run-producing double.
For Puerto Rico, Yohandí Morales stood out by batting 5-3, with a run scored, and Nelson Velázquez also crossed the plate.
The Leones del Escogido will return to action on Wednesday, after Tuesday’s free day, to face the Federales de Chiriquí of Panama at 4:00 in the afternoon (Dominican time).
