Dominguez Asks Infantino to Continue Leading FIFA
In the framework of the 82nd Ordinary Congress of CONMEBOL, held in Quito, President Alejandro Domínguez made a public call to Gianni Infantino to consider running again for the FIFA presidency after 2027. Domínguez highlighted the importance of Infantino’s leadership in the transformation of world football during the last decade and expressed the desire for this process to continue.During the event, Domínguez symbolically placed a captain’s armband on Infantino, emphasizing the need for strong leadership to consolidate achievements and project the development of football. Infantino thanked the support and highlighted South America’s role in the evolution of football, noting that the region is in a moment of expansion. In addition, he stated that football can be a tool for unity in the current international context. In the congress, institutional and financial matters were also discussed, including CONMEBOL’s efforts to recover resources related to past corruption cases, with ongoing processes in Paraguay. The South American leadership reaffirmed its commitment to invest in the development of football, seeking to regain prominence at an international level and strengthen its competitions.“We want you to accept being a candidate for president again for the next term,” said Domínguez.
