Acuña Jr. is nearing his return with the Braves
Venezuelan outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. is getting closer to returning to action with the Atlanta Braves. The player is expected to begin his rehabilitation assignment this Tuesday.
The Atlanta Braves’ Florida Complex League (FCL) team will be the stage for Acuña’s return, facing the Orioles at CoolToday Park in North Port, Florida.
Acuña suffered a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee on May 26, 2024, in a game against the Pirates. His recovery has been progressive and with a more conservative approach compared to his 2021 injury.
It’s been almost a year since Acuña last played, so caution is key.
Brian Snitker, Braves manager
Although manager Brian Snitker emphasizes caution, Acuña’s return before June 1st is a real possibility, as rehabilitation assignments cannot extend beyond 20 days.
During spring training, Acuña has practiced batting and baseball exercises. He received clearance for defensive drills and changes of direction after a medical evaluation last month.
After completing his assignment at the spring complex, Acuña could be transferred to one of the Braves’ higher-level affiliates before his expected return to the main team.
Acuña’s return would be a great boost for Atlanta, which seeks to remain competitive. His offensive power and his presence on the field are crucial to the team’s postseason aspirations.
