Abinader Strengthens the Ministry of Sports with Two Key Figures: Meet the New Vice Ministers!

President Luis Abinader has appointed two new vice ministers for the Ministry of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation.

New Designations in the Ministry of Sports

Fernando Arturo Teruel Capri will assume the Technical Vice Ministry, while Samuel Taveras Tiburcio will be in charge of the Vice Ministry of Maintenance and Sports Facilities.

Fernando Arturo Teruel Capri

Teruel Capri has over 50 years of experience in training, education, and management of basketball at the university and national levels, standing out both locally and internationally. He has won gold medals in the Central American Games representing the Dominican Republic and Guatemala.

He was recognized as an Immortal of Dominican Sports and an Immortal of Sports in the municipality of La Vega in 2021. In addition, he was president of the National Women’s Basketball League and of the National Minibasketball Commission.

His career in the Ministry of Sports includes roles as a monitor, technical director, training director, and director of provincial and regional directors.

Samuel Taveras Tiburcio

Taveras Tiburcio is a civil engineering professional with over 15 years of experience in the design, execution, and supervision of civil works, as well as in the management of public and private infrastructure projects.

He is the founder, partner, and manager of the company Construcciones Taveras Tiburcio y Asoc., where he has led important projects in Sabana de la Mar and other locations in the east of the country, including streets, sidewalks, parks, housing, and industrial and educational facilities.

In the political sphere, he was mayor of Sabana de la Mar in the period 2020-2024. He has also been vice president of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Hato Mayor, president of the Association of Municipalities of the Higuamo Region of the Dominican Federation of Municipalities (FEDOMU), secretary general of CODIA in Hato Mayor, and member of the Executive Council of FEDOMU and of the Executive Committee of the LMD.
