The legendary sportsman Tito Horford expressed his gratitude to President Luis Abinader for the inauguration of the multipurpose roofed Club La Tribu de Quisqueya in La Romana. This project, long awaited by the community, has become a reality after 44 years of waiting, thus fulfilling a presidential promise. The delivery of this modern sports facility, which took place on Saturday, was attended by the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, and represents a significant milestone for the integral development of Roman youth. The inauguration takes place after the president presented the main achievements of his administration to the country, highlighting the sustained growth of the economy, the historic record in tourist arrivals, the strengthening of the agricultural sector, investments in water and road infrastructure, as well as progress in transparency and macroeconomic stability, reaffirming his commitment to social development and the generation of opportunities throughout the national territory. Cruz recalled that the project arose from a dream of basketball player Al Horford, who requested the construction of a professional roof in his hometown. President Abinader not only embraced the idea, but also expanded it, transforming it into a multi-use roof with two courts.Investment in this infrastructure exceeds 62 million pesos and meets the standards of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). Cruz emphasized that this work demonstrates how society is transformed, providing tools for the development of youth, churches, entrepreneurs, and neighborhood associations. In addition, a volunteer program has been established to ensure the care, maintenance, and revitalization of the facility, turning it into a center for training and healthy coexistence. The governor of La Romana, Ivelisse Mercedes Méndez, highlighted that this inauguration materializes the changes in sports promoted by the government. Tito Horford, father of Al Horford, thanked the president for keeping his word and making this dream come true. He emphasized that this work represents a before and after for La Romana and will serve as a space for prevention and training for the youth. The mayor of La Romana, Eduardo Kery Metivier, also expressed his gratitude to President Abinader for the works carried out in the province, highlighting the positive impact on the community’s quality of life.“The President said: yes, count on that, but I want it to be a multipurpose covered court with two courts instead of one, one for warm-up and another for professional games,” he related.
