Innovation in Spanish Football: RefCam Debuts in the Cup Final and Will Extend to LaLiga
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and LaLiga have announced a revolutionary initiative for this Saturday’s final at the La Cartuja stadium in Seville. This involves the implementation of the “RefCam”, a device that will offer a new perspective on refereeing.
This technology, which will be extended to LaLiga matches from April 22, will allow fans a greater understanding of refereeing decisions, thanks to the direct view of the referee and the incorporation of real-time audio, according to both entities in a statement.
The RefCam will contribute to a greater understanding of referee decisions and will bring a new level of transparency and closeness to the fans.
The camera, which will be in charge of Alberola Rojas, will offer the television signal produced by RTVE a closer and more immersive perspective of the game. This will allow fans to “experience the emotion of football with an unprecedented level of immersion at the highest professional level”, according to the statement.
The implementation of this innovation in LaLiga will begin with one match per matchday, starting next week, with the aim of “reinforcing the competition’s commitment to the evolution of the audiovisual experience of football”.
The matches in which you can enjoy the images from the referee’s camera that have already been confirmed are:
- Betis-Real Madrid (matchday 32)
- Barcelona-Celta de Vigo (matchday 33)
- Valencia-Atlético de Madrid (matchday 34)
- Barcelona-Real Madrid (matchday 35)
