Welington Castillo highlights Dominican pride after runner-up finish in the Kids Caribbean Series

After an intense final in Nayarit, Mexico, where the Dominican Republic fell 11-8 to Mexico Green in the battle for the title of the III Caribbean Kids Series, manager Welington Castillo gathered his players on the field to send a message of unity and resilience. Despite not achieving the three-peat, the manager highlighted the dedication and character shown by the team throughout the international tournament.

We are a team. I am proud of each one of you. You stood tall like men out there.

Welington Castillo, manager of the Dominican Republic.

Castillo closed his speech by urging his players to keep the faith and be grateful for the experience lived in the tournament. With a gesture of humility, the manager led a group prayer, emphasizing that the team’s performance was part of divine will and that they should feel satisfied with the effort made in every inning of the championship.

A journey marked by excellence

The path of the Quisqueyanos to the final was impeccable. The Dominican team established itself as one of the great favorites after a resounding 7-0 victory over Mexico Red in the preliminary phase. In that match, the figures of Yemmy Marrero and Isaac Brito stood out, as they were fundamental pieces in the execution of a combined no-hitter that secured the pass to the decisive game.

The defeat in the grand final against Mexico Green not only delivered the first title to the hosts, but also put an end to a historic streak for the Dominican delegation:

  • 18-game winning streak in the Kids Caribbean Series.
  • Absolute dominance in the first two editions of the tournament.
  • Consolidation as an emerging powerhouse in Caribbean youth baseball.

Although the trophy did not return home on this occasion, the Dominican participation reaffirms the high level of development of its young talents. The experience gained on Mexican soil will serve as a foundation for future commitments, maintaining the Dominican Republic as an undisputed benchmark in the training of baseball players at a regional level.
