Million-dollar investment to preserve the memory of September 11
The United States National Park Service has announced a significant allocation of funds aimed at the preservation and maintenance of the sites that honor the memory of the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. On the eve of the 25th anniversary of that tragic event, the institution has allocated a total of 4 million dollars to ensure the operational continuity of these historic spaces.
The budget allocation will be distributed equitably between two of the most iconic locations dedicated to the commemoration of this date:
- The National September 11 Memorial in New York, located at the so-called Ground Zero, where the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center once stood.
- The National 9/11 Pentagon Memorial, situated in the vicinity of Washington.
Each of these sites will receive 2 million dollars, funds that will be used to reinforce security measures, facility maintenance, and daily operational management. According to the agency in charge, these grants are essential to ensure that the monuments continue to function as centers for learning and reflection, where the public can honor the memory of the deceased and recognize the work of the response and rescue teams.
These grants will allow for the maintenance of operations, security, and facilities at both spaces, in addition to ensuring they continue to offer the public places to learn, remember, and pay tribute to the victims and those who participated in the rescue and response efforts following the attacks.

A historical legacy that endures
The September 11, 2001 attacks, perpetrated by the Al Qaeda network through the hijacking of commercial airplanes, claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people. The impact of these attacks was felt not only at the Twin Towers and the Pentagon, but also in Pennsylvania, where a fourth aircraft crashed while heading toward Washington.
In addition to commemorating the victims of the 2001 attacks, the New York memorial also keeps alive the memory of those who lost their lives in the 1993 truck bombing that occurred within the World Trade Center parking facilities, consolidating itself as a symbol of resilience and historical remembrance for the American nation.
