Police and Ministry of Women train 300 agents against violence

National Police and Ministry of Women join forces to eradicate gender-based violence

In a joint effort to transform the culture of coexistence and promote relationships based on respect, the National Police and the Ministry of Women held a strategic dialogue panel aimed at 300 law enforcement officers. The event, titled Voices that contribute solutions from the male population, seeks to foster new masculinities and reduce the rates of violence against women in the country.

The initiative, organized by the Specialized Directorate for Attention to Women and Intrafamily Violence (DEAMVI), is part of the National Consultation for the Reduction of Risks of Violence against Women. The meeting brought together high-ranking police officials and government representatives to outline a clear roadmap for the prevention of this social scourge.

Firm institutional commitment

The Deputy Director General of the National Police, General Esteban Figuereo García, was emphatic when referring to the consequences for those who violate the integrity of women. During his speech, he made it clear that the institution will not tolerate abusive behavior under any circumstances.

Any man who commits abuse or violence against a woman will be declared a police target.

Figuereo García stressed that law enforcement officers have a constitutional duty to be guarantors of citizen security, which implies exemplary conduct both in the protection of victims and in the relentless pursuit of aggressors.

Agents as multipliers of change

For her part, the Minister of Women, Gloria Reyes, highlighted the crucial role that members of the National Police play as agents of change. According to Reyes, by sensitizing the men of the institution, a multiplier effect is achieved that positively impacts their homes, communities, and work environments.

The panel, moderated by Lily Luciano, featured the participation of experts and authorities who presented concrete proposals to reduce risk factors. Among the key points discussed were:

• The promotion of a culture of equality and mutual respect.
• The active participation of men in the prevention of violent behaviors.
• The strengthening of inter-institutional coordination for a more effective response.
• The development of proposals to mitigate social risk factors.

With these types of sessions, the National Police reaffirms its commitment to the Ministry of Women to build a safer and more equitable society, where prevention is the fundamental tool to eradicate gender-based violence in the national territory.
