Dominican government to publish Comptroller’s audits starting in October

President Luis Abinader announced a transcendental measure regarding administrative transparency by ordering the progressive publication of the results of the audits carried out by the Comptroller General of the Republic (CGR) on various State institutions. This accountability process, which will formally begin on October 1st, will cover the management balance of the first four years of his administration, spanning from August 2020 to August 2024.

A gradual oversight process

In accordance with the president’s directive, the disclosure of the reports will not be carried out simultaneously. Access to these documents will be gradual, advancing as the Comptroller’s Office completes the review processes and submits the corresponding technical reports. It is important to highlight that these documents correspond exclusively to the internal control tasks of the Executive Branch, differing from the audits carried out by the Chamber of Accounts of the Dominican Republic.

The decision to make these findings public seeks to strengthen transparency and accountability mechanisms, allowing citizens to have clear and direct access to the administrative and financial management of government entities.

Commitment to state transparency

This measure responds to a growing demand for access to public information. Previously, the Comptroller’s Office had indicated that the reports needed to be officialized by the Executive Branch before being presented to society. With this step, the Government reaffirms its commitment to the oversight initiated since the beginning of its administration in 2020, when the first audits were ordered to evaluate both the previous administration and the performance of the current administration’s officials.

  • Start of publications: October 1st.
  • Audited period: August 2020 – August 2024.
  • Objective: To reinforce transparency and internal oversight.
  • Methodology: Gradual delivery as reports are concluded by the Comptroller’s Office.

With the implementation of this publication calendar, the Dominican population will be able to know firsthand the results of the financial and administrative reviews, consolidating a more open and accountable public management scheme for the citizenry.
