UASD boosts higher education in Higüey with new facilities
The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) has taken a significant step in strengthening its presence in the eastern region of the country. Under the leadership of its rector, Jorge Asjana David, the institution formally delivered the remodeling of various academic spaces at the UASD-Higüey Center, thus optimizing the conditions in which students and teachers carry out their teaching-learning process.
Modern infrastructure for academic excellence
Among the improvements made, the Physiological Sciences Laboratory, Classroom 109 dedicated to Geography, and Room 1 of the Library stand out. These spaces were not only refurbished but also received an endowment of high-tech equipment to raise the quality of education in the La Altagracia province.
The new laboratory is equipped with:
- High-precision optical microscopes.
- Spectrophotometers and potentiometers.
- pH meters and refractometers.
- Analytical balances and cooling systems for reagents.
With your support, we will continue working to keep modernizing this center until it becomes a model facility for the region and an example for other facilities and centers of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo.
Jorge Asjana David, Rector of the UASD.
Rector Asjana David emphasized that, in his first months of administration, the main focus has been to implement concrete solutions that positively impact the university community, reaffirming the role of the UASD as the main benchmark for higher education in the Dominican Republic.
Municipal recognition of educational commitment
During the day, the rector’s work was distinguished by local authorities. The Mayor’s Office of Higüey awarded him the Coat of Arms of the Villa de Salvaleón de Higüey, the highest municipal distinction, in honor of his outstanding career and contributions to science, culture, and education. The recognition was presented by Deputy Mayor Pablo Ávila on behalf of Mayor Karina Aristy.
Johnny Santana Rijo, director of the UASD-Higüey Center, celebrated the progress and ratified his willingness to collaborate closely with university and provincial authorities so that this academic center consolidates itself as a reference model for the entire Eastern region.
The inaugural event was attended by a distinguished delegation, including vice-rectors Antonio Ciriaco, Rosel Fernández, and Juana Encarnación, as well as Senator Rafael Barón Duluc and Governor Daysy De Óleo, who supported this initiative that expands training opportunities for the youth of Altagracia.
