Parents in Bonao demand an end to school strikes
The Federation of Parents, Mothers, and Friends of the School (APMAE) in the municipality of Bonao, Monseñor Nouel province, has raised its voice to demand that the local branch of the Dominican Association of Teachers (ADP) reverse the measures that have led to a reduction in the school day. Family representatives are seeking for teaching to be restored to its usual pace in all educational centers in the district.
Wilian Liranzo, president of this federation, expressed the tutors’ resounding rejection of the practice of halting classes mid-term. According to Liranzo, these actions negatively impact the teaching-learning process, violating the students’ fundamental right to receive consistent and quality instruction.
The difficulties that may arise in a particular educational institution must be addressed individually, without the measures adopted ending up affecting students at other centers that are operating normally.

Conflict over the development of the academic year
The APMAE representative questioned the protest method implemented by the teachers’ union, arguing that the decisions made by the ADP in Bonao have become a significant obstacle to the progress of the school calendar. The educational community maintains that constant interruptions prevent students from reaching the academic goals established for the current period.
The parents’ dissatisfaction became evident during a public demonstration held recently. With signs in hand, the guardians appeared in the vicinity of the Bonao Country Club, the place where the ADP was holding an assembly with its members, to express their discontent directly.
Call to dialogue
Faced with the tension generated by this situation, the APMAE made a formal appeal to the authorities and the teaching sector to prioritize dialogue as a way to resolve conflicts. The parents emphasized that any protest measure must avoid, at all costs, the sacrifice of class hours, always placing the well-being and future of the students as the central axis of any negotiation.
