Two young people arrested in Santiago accused of armed robbery

The National Police reported the arrest of two young men in Santiago, who had active arrest warrants for their alleged participation in an armed robbery perpetrated against a couple. The detainees reportedly stripped the victims of their belongings, specifically two gold chains, while they were traveling along the Gregorio Luperón Tourist Highway.

Operational details

The individuals were identified as Branly Manuel Veras Torres, known as “Brayli Veras”, 22 years old, and Alfredo Acevedo Peña, 19. Both were located and captured by the authorities during strategic operations carried out in the Gurabo sector.

According to the official report, the incident occurred on the night of last September 7th, around 7:40 p.m. The victims were traveling on a motorcycle near the El Juvero sector when they were intercepted by the aggressors, who were also traveling on a two-wheeled vehicle.

One of the detainees used a firearm to intimidate the couple, managing to snatch two gold chains from them, including a piece that contained a religious medal.

Legal actions and judicial process

The investigative work was carried out by agents from the Property Crimes Investigation Section, who worked in conjunction with Preventive Police officers to execute the judicial orders. Following their capture, the young men were transferred to the corresponding detachments.

The law enforcement institution confirmed that Veras Torres and Acevedo Peña will be presented before the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the agency in charge of formalizing the charges and requesting the pertinent coercive measures before the courts. Meanwhile, the authorities are keeping the investigations open to clarify all the details of the event and verify if there are other crimes linked to those arrested.
