Twitter prepares its new “Flock” feature to share content privately

The social network Twitter is working on an innovative tool called “Flock,” designed so that users can selectively share posts with a small group of people. This functionality, which seeks to offer a more private environment, would allow internet users to configure a personalized list of contacts to interact in a more intimate circle.

According to recent findings by developer Alessandro Paluzzi, this feature bears a conceptual similarity to the “close friends” function present on other digital platforms. The technical structure of this tool would allow adding up to a maximum of 150 users to this exclusive group.

Operation and dynamics of the tool

  • Users will have the option to choose between posting a tweet publicly or restricting it exclusively to their “Flock” group.
  • Only members of the selected group will have access to view and reply to such messages.
  • Members of the list will receive a special notification when content specifically directed at them is posted.
  • List management is flexible, allowing members to be edited at any time; furthermore, if a user is removed, they will not receive any notification about this change.
  • Each tweet shared under this mode will include an informative label with the caption: “You can see this tweet because the author has added you to their Flock.”

Twitter is always working on new ways to help people participate in healthy conversations, and we are currently exploring ways to allow people to share more privately.

Tatiana Britt, Twitter spokesperson

Although the company has confirmed that it is exploring options to improve privacy and the quality of interactions, they clarified that “Twitter Flock” is currently a provisional name and there is still no official launch date. The platform continues to evaluate new alternatives to optimize the experience of its users in the digital environment.
