Weather forecast: Tropical wave and trough will affect the national territory
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has issued a report on the weather conditions that will affect the country this Tuesday. The combination of a tropical wave, currently located over Puerto Rico, and a trough to the northwest of the territory, will generate a significant increase in humidity and atmospheric instability.
Although the day began with isolated showers in the eastern areas, cloudiness is expected to intensify from the afternoon and throughout the night, giving way to moderate to heavy downpours, accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts across much of the country.
Provinces under precipitation alert
The authorities have indicated that the rains will be more frequent in the following districts:
- La Altagracia, La Romana, El Seibo and Hato Mayor.
- San Pedro de Macorís, Monte Plata, Samaná and Sánchez Ramírez.
- San Cristóbal, Peravia, San José de Ocoa and Monseñor Nouel.
- La Vega, Azua, San Juan, Elías Piña, Independencia and Baoruco.
- Greater Santo Domingo and the National District.
Monitoring of cyclonic systems
Aloftoke Sports highlights the constant monitoring that Indomet maintains over three systems with cyclonic potential in the Atlantic:
- Low-pressure area: Located southwest of the Cape Verde Islands, it has a 30% chance of development in the short term (48 hours) and 70% over the next seven days.
- Tropical wave: Located halfway between Africa and the Lesser Antilles, it maintains a 10% chance of cyclonic development.
- Trough north of the Bahamas: Although it is generating showers, it has a low probability of development and, due to its current trajectory, does not pose a danger to the Dominican Republic.
The meteorological agency urges all citizens to stay informed through official bulletins regarding any changes in the evolution and movement of these atmospheric phenomena.
Conditions in Greater Santo Domingo and recommendations
For the National District and the municipalities of Santo Domingo, a mostly cloudy afternoon with thunderstorms is forecast. Temperatures will remain high, ranging between 33 °C and 35 °C for highs, and lows of 23 °C to 25 °C.
In the face of intense heat, Indomet reiterates the following preventive measures:
- Maintain constant hydration throughout the day.
- Avoid direct sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
- Wear light-colored, lightweight clothing.
- Prioritize the care of children, the elderly, and people with vulnerable health conditions by keeping them in cool, ventilated spaces.
