Child tragedy: The case of Dylan Sánchez shakes Dominican society
A case that has shocked public opinion was recently exposed on Alofoke Deportes. It concerns the death of little Dylan Sánchez, only two years old, who lost his life under circumstances marked by extreme physical violence and parental neglect in the Herrera sector, Santo Domingo Oeste.
The minor, who suffered from a pattern of chronic abuse, passed away on July 29th. Preliminary investigations indicate that the tragic outcome occurred during the night of Father’s Day, when the child was left in the custody of his stepmother, Mireli Gisette Rodríguez Capellán, and his father, Joel Lisandro Merejo García.
Contradictory versions versus medical evidence
After the incident, the accused attempted to divert the authorities’ attention by offering inconsistent explanations. Initially, she claimed that the child suffered an accidental fall while she was in the bathroom. Subsequently, she tried to justify the fatal injuries by alleging that the infant had slipped off a motorcycle or, in another version, that he had fallen down the stairs.
However, the report from the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) was conclusive. The death certificate revealed that the passing was caused by severe blows to the skull, cerebral contusion, and multiple hemorrhages. Specialists determined that the clinical picture is consistent with what is known as battered child syndrome.
The full weight of the law must fall upon her without hesitation.

The Public Ministry’s investigation has brought to light that the minor had been a victim of constant abuse for a year. According to reports, maternal relatives had previously warned about the presence of bruises on the child’s body, but the biological father downplayed the situation, describing the acts of violence as simple disciplinary corrections.
