Tragedy in the Congo: Primary school fire leaves at least 27 children dead
A devastating tragedy has shaken the city of Bukavu, capital of the South Kivu province, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. A voracious fire recorded this Thursday at a primary education institution has claimed the lives of at least 27 minors, as confirmed by local authorities after intense search efforts among the rubble.
The mayor of the Kadutu commune, Théo Ruremesha, reported that the death toll has risen following the discovery of twelve additional bodies at the Mogo educational center facilities. The magnitude of the event has mobilized the entire community, while local health services are facing a critical situation due to the high demand for medical care for those affected.
We now have 27 corpses among the students. Several bodies have been taken to the Kadutu referral hospital. Other cases were sent to other centers when the referral hospital became overwhelmed.

Rescue difficulties and situation in the area
Rescue efforts were seriously hindered by the difficult access conditions to the affected infrastructure. Faced with the emergency, it was the local residents themselves who joined forces to try to control the spread of the flames and provide first aid to the survivors.
