Tragedy on George Washington Avenue: Two confirmed dead after tanker fire
George Washington Avenue, at the height of Socorro Sánchez Street, was the scene of a regrettable accident this Monday morning. A fire involving a fuel truck and other vehicles resulted in the loss of two human lives, as confirmed by relief authorities.
The general intendant of the Santo Domingo Fire Department, General José Luis Frometa, reported that after extinguishing the flames, rescue teams managed to locate two bodies among the remains of the affected vehicles. Currently, emergency units are working on the extraction of the remains to proceed with the official identification of the victims and determine which unit each one belonged to.

Regarding the causes that originated this incident, the authorities have indicated that it is still premature to offer a conclusion. Once the recovery phase of the bodies and the removal of the damaged vehicles is completed, the technical investigations to clarify the facts will formally begin.
For his part, Erdwin Olivares, director of the Emergency Operations Center (COE), pointed out that an exhaustive survey of the perimeter is being carried out. Given that the boardwalk area is highly frequented by athletes during the early hours of the day, the authorities are maintaining an inspection protocol to rule out the presence of other possible victims in the area of the incident.
