Toros del Este bolster their rotation with left-handed pitcher Evan Grills

With the goal of consolidating their starting rotation for the upcoming 2026-2027 season of the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), the Toros del Este have announced the addition of Canadian pitcher Evan Grills. The hurler is already working alongside the rest of the team in the training sessions held in La Romana.

Grills, 34 years old, arrives after an outstanding performance in the summer, where he saw action in both the Frontier League and the Mexican Baseball League. During that period, he accumulated a record of 10 wins and five losses, demonstrating remarkable control by totaling 98 strikeouts and conceding only 25 walks in 107 innings of work.

Grills is a left-handed starter with a good repertoire and command; that combination always adds value to a rotation in this league.

International experience and roster adjustments

Although it will be his first experience in Dominican winter baseball, the pitcher has a significant background in international circuits. His career includes participation in the Puerto Rican Professional Baseball League, wearing the Santurce uniform, as well as a stint in professional baseball in China.

The arrival of Grills responds to the bullfighting team’s need to cover the temporary absence of Aaron Sánchez. The American pitcher presented health complications due to a virus after his arrival in the country, which is why the organization hopes for his speedy recovery to reincorporate him into the pitching staff later on.

Preparations for the start of the season

  • Manager Víctor Estévez and his coaching staff are finalizing details to determine the starting rotation for the first few games.
  • The Toros del Este’s opening game will be at the Francisco A. Micheli Stadium.
  • The initial matchup is scheduled against the Estrellas Orientales; this upcoming game will begin at 7:30 at night.

With this move, the Toros del Este management continues to structure a competitive team, seeking depth and quality on the mound to face the challenges represented by the demanding LIDOM season.
