Resounding success: The play “Solos” closes its season addressing male mental health

The theatrical production “Solos”, under the Otro Teatro label, concluded its recent season at Casa de Teatro with absolute success. During four consecutive performances, held from August 20 to 23, 2026, the piece managed to capture the attention of the Dominican public with a courageous narrative that puts male mental health and the weight of silenced emotions under the microscope.

Under the direction and dramaturgy of Robelitza Pérez, the play uses an everyday setting deeply rooted in our culture: a domino table. The plot is triggered when the unexpected absence of one of the group members forces the others to abandon the laughter and the game to face their fears, frustrations, and realities that, for years, they had kept under lock and key.

A mirror of traditional masculinity

The production relied on the solid performances of Gilberto Hernández, Miguel Oniel, and Richarson Díaz, who brought to life intergenerational characters that reflect the social pressures and internal conflicts many men face today. The play challenges traditional models of masculinity, questioning why it is so complex for the male gender to express vulnerability or seek support in difficult situations.

The proposal sought to generate reflection through cultural elements close to the public, using humor and camaraderie as a vehicle to touch sensitive and necessary chords in our society.

Theater as a tool for social transformation

The production team, led by Karina Valdez and Solanyi Muriel, managed to turn the stage into a meeting point for dialogue. The central objective was to transcend the stage and foster conversations that, unfortunately, often remain outside of family and social circles.

Men’s mental health remains a critical issue. According to standards from international organizations, emotional well-being is a fundamental pillar that allows people to cope with stress, develop their abilities, and contribute to their community. The greatest obstacle today remains the stigma surrounding the search for professional help.

Breaking barriers

  • The play highlighted the importance of recognizing emotions as part of overall well-being.
  • It was emphasized how economic and social factors directly impact psychological stability.
  • The attendance success confirms that the Dominican public is increasingly open to consuming proposals that invite introspection and social change.

With the close of this season, “Solos” not only leaves a positive balance at the box office, but also consolidates its impact as a necessary benchmark for talking about the importance of mental health and the urgency of unlearning behaviors that prevent men from fully experiencing their emotions.
