Henry Merán points out setbacks at the start of the school year and questions educational management
Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) leader, Henry Merán, has raised his voice to criticize the current state of the Dominican educational system. According to the member of the organization’s Political Directorate, the country is undergoing a process of regression under the current administration, facing challenges that, in previous years, were already considered resolved.
During a recent public intervention, Merán emphasized that the education sector has failed to advance, but has instead experienced a significant setback in fundamental areas that directly affect the student population and their families.
The Dominican educational system has not only failed to advance, it has regressed. We are starting a school year with serious weaknesses, including deficiencies that years ago were already supplied or considered resolved.

Main critical points identified
- Classroom deficit: Merán lamented the shortage of school spots, contrasting the current reality with previous periods where educational infrastructure was sufficient to accommodate the school-age population.
- School nutrition: He denounced deficiencies in the supply of breakfasts, lunches, and snacks, programs he considers have lost the effectiveness achieved in previous administrations.
- Educational quality: He pointed out that both the curriculum and the results of the teaching-learning process have shown a notable decline during this government administration.
Preparation of a government proposal
Given this scenario, the Fuerza del Pueblo maintains its focus on consolidating its territorial structures and creating a robust government program. The goal of the organization, led by Leonel Fernández, is to present concrete solutions that exceed current expectations and respond to the unmet demands of the citizenry.
Merán highlighted that the party continues to be immersed in a process of institutional growth, adding new leaders and citizens committed to a management plan that manages to reverse the problems that, in his view, affect national development and the future of Dominican students.
