Justice system grants bail to those involved in the robbery at the Bayaguana Olympic Village
The Permanent Attention Court of Monte Plata issued coercive measures against two individuals identified as responsible for the theft of 35 televisions intended for the athletes of Bayaguana. The equipment, which was intended to reward the medalists of the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, was stolen from the Olympic Village, causing great indignation in the sports sector.
The defendants, identified as Álvaro Martín Hubiera Robles, known as “Buligui”, and Walfer David Reyes Concepción, were granted conditional release upon payment of a financial bond. Additionally, the court imposed a travel ban and the obligation to report periodically to the authorities while the judicial process continues.
Equipment recovery and progress of investigations
Following an operational deployment coordinated by agents of the National Police and the Public Ministry, under the supervision of General Pedro Ignacio Matos Pérez, director of DICRIM, the authorities managed to recover 21 of the 35 stolen televisions.
The rapid intervention of the investigative units allowed for the recovery of a significant portion of the equipment, which is now under the custody of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for evidentiary purposes.
As part of the proceedings to clarify the incident, the authorities seized two vehicles: a Jeep Patriot and a Chevrolet, which are presumed to have been used for the transport of the electronic devices once the robbery was perpetrated.
New lines of research
The case, which directly affects the athletes who represented the country at the 2026 regional event, remains open. Currently, the Public Prosecutor’s Office is keeping four other people under investigation, seeking to determine their level of involvement and clarify the logistics used to remove the televisions from the Olympic Village.
