Mauricio Báez and Bameso will star in the start of the 50th Superior Basketball Tournament of the National District
The National District Basketball Association (Abadina) has confirmed that the Golden Anniversary special edition of the National District Superior Basketball Tournament (TBS Distrito 2026) will raise the curtain next Tuesday, September 15. The venue chosen for this historic event is the BanReservas Arena, located at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.
The clash that will open the championship will be a high-level duel between the Mauricio Báez and Bameso clubs, scheduled for 8:00 at night. This matchup marks the beginning of an iconic season that celebrates five decades of tradition in capital city basketball.
High-level organization and logistics
Edwin Castillo (Tatico), president of Abadina, reported that the date was established after a consensus process between the Organizing Committee, the association, the tournament commissioner, Nelson Ramírez, and the eight participating clubs. It should be noted that the Organizing Committee for this edition is chaired by the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, Andrés Bautista.
To ensure the success of the event, Abadina finalized an agreement for the use of the BanReservas Arena with the president of the Volunteer Corps, Fernando Hasbún, and the administrator Katiuska Sánchez. Nelson Ramírez, Claudio Méndez, and César Heredia Guerra also played a fundamental role in these efforts.
We are working hard on every logistical detail so that these Golden Anniversary celebrations are an unforgettable experience for the district basketball fan base.

Preparatory meeting with the clubs
Recently, a work meeting was held where crucial aspects for the tournament setup were defined. The meeting was attended by representatives from seven of the eight clubs that will see action, including prominent figures from institutions such as Los Prados, San Lázaro, San Carlos, El Millón, Doctor Rafael Barias, Huellas del Siglo, and Bameso. Although the reigning champion, Mauricio Báez, was not present at this session, the planning is moving forward with the commitment of all parties involved.
Tournament security will be under the supervision of National Police General Julio Ernesto Pérez Feliz, while communication and promotion of the event will be coordinated by sports journalist Odalis Sánchez, the event’s Press Director. With these preparations, the 2026 TBS District is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year in the Dominican Republic.
