Upper Manhattan on alert: Authorities reinforce security ahead of massive gathering in Dyckman
The Dominican community of Upper Manhattan is on high alert following a new call circulating on social media, which suggests the holding of a massive gathering called “Dyckman Takeover: Part 3” for this coming Sunday. This alert arises after recent episodes of violence recorded in the Dyckman area, which have generated deep concern among local residents and merchants.
Preventive measures and police deployment
Faced with the uncertainty generated by this announcement, various local authorities and community representatives met at Quisqueya Square to coordinate a strategic response. The main objective is to guarantee public order and prevent any incident that could affect the physical integrity of citizens or private property.
- Possible deployment of approximately 700 NYPD officers.
- Evaluation of temporary closures on critical streets.
- Implementation of access controls at strategic points.
- Possible temporary closure of Quisqueya Plaza as a preventive measure.
Background of instability
The mobilization of the authorities is a response to the disturbances recorded after the celebrations of the Dominican National Day Parade in New York. At that time, the area was the scene of serious clashes that included stabbings, leaving a 23-year-old man dead and several people injured, in addition to significant material damage.
The authorities have issued an urgent call to young people and their families to act responsibly, seeking to prevent the gatherings organized on social media from leading to situations of chaos and violence that disrupt the peace of Upper Manhattan.
A joint effort for safety
Key figures such as Congressman Adriano Espaillat, Councilwoman Carmen de la Rosa, Overseas Deputy Cirilo Moronta, Assemblyman Al Taylor, and Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal participated in the working groups to define the security operation. Along with them, representatives from the Fire Department, Sanitation, and Community Board 12 are working together with merchants to protect the sector.
This phenomenon of the so-called “teen takeovers” is not exclusive to New York, as it has been replicated in various cities across the United States. Therefore, Alofoke Deportes will continue to monitor the development of the situation in Inwood and Upper Manhattan, where the community remains attentive to official provisions for this weekend.
