Congresswoman Nelsa Shoraya Suárez demands to expedite priority works in Santiago
Legislator Nelsa Shoraya Suárez Ariza highlighted the progress made in the province of Santiago thanks to the central government’s administration; however, she issued an urgent call to accelerate the execution of infrastructure projects that still remain pending. Among the priorities pointed out, the congresswoman emphasized the need to complete work on various aqueducts and the strengthening of the network of polyclinics in the region.
During a meeting with President Luis Abinader, Suárez raised the importance of decongesting the national reference hospitals, the José María Cabral y Báez and the Arturo Grullón. The central proposal consists of the creation of a new regional hospital that would allow for the expansion of healthcare response capacity for the citizens of Santiago.
Health and infrastructure priorities
- Construction of a specialized unit for the care of burn patients, a project promoted since previous legislative periods.
- Completion of aqueducts that are in the execution phase to guarantee the supply of drinking water.
- Repair and adaptation of primary care centers in various communities.
The congresswoman stressed that, although it is necessary to plan new investments, the focus must be maintained on the works that are already in progress to ensure that resources are used efficiently, always evaluating the opportune moment to start new large-scale projects.
Supervision in school feeding programs
On another note, Suárez referred to the case regarding the deterioration of milk units intended for the school breakfast program. After it became known that a portion of the distribution presented issues, the legislator supported the ongoing investigation and the decision to temporarily suspend the contractors involved.
Every single carton of milk that spoils is important. The State must guarantee that the products delivered to children arrive in proper condition and do not pose a risk to their health.

Regarding the debate on distribution contracts, the legislator clarified that, after the explanations provided by the authorities, the structure of the agreements was clarified. She explained that the amounts indicated often cover periods of up to two years, so she urged that the figures be analyzed in the context of the volume of products and the actual execution time.
Transparency in public debt
Finally, the congresswoman valued the intervention of her fellow legislators regarding the management of public debt. She considered it fundamental that comparative data on the behavior of loans across different administrations be presented, thus allowing for greater transparency before the president and the citizenry.
Suárez concluded by describing the dialogue space between the authorities and the representatives of Santiago as a positive democratic exercise, advocating for the continuity of these meetings to provide definitive solutions to the province’s needs.
