The Senate celebrates 82 years of La Romana with a special session and key projects

The province of La Romana was the setting for an ordinary session of the Senate of the Republic, held this Friday in commemoration of its 82nd anniversary. The meeting, which brought together local authorities, legislators, and representatives from various sectors, was led by the president of the upper house, Ricardo de los Santos, in response to a request from the provincial senator, Eduard Alexis Espiritusanto.

Boosting development and tourism

During the legislative session, fundamental initiatives for the growth of the district and the well-being of its inhabitants were approved. Among the most prominent projects is the proposal to declare La Romana an ecotourism province, a measure designed to boost its natural and cultural attractions at both the national and international levels.

Likewise, the plenary session gave the green light to an internship and job placement program in the public sector, a strategic initiative to provide young students and recent graduates with the opportunity to gain their first professional experience.

Acknowledgments and national agenda

The event also served as a platform to highlight talent and social work in the region. In the sports field, the Senate recognized baseball player Cristopher Alexis Sánchez for his career. On an institutional level, distinctions were awarded to entities such as the Patronato Benéfico Oriental, the MIR Foundation, Arturo Morales Espinal, and the Hicayagua School for their significant contributions to community development.

This special session underscores the historical, economic, and cultural importance of La Romana, reaffirming the Senate’s commitment to the progress of the country’s Eastern region.
