Remains of Jesús Alberto Aracena Castillo, alias “Bebeco”, handed over following confrontation in Santiago
In an environment marked by a strict security deployment, the remains of Jesús Alberto Aracena Castillo, popularly known as “Bebeco,” were handed over this Monday to his relatives at the facilities of the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) in Santiago. The 25-year-old young man lost his life during an alleged exchange of gunfire with agents of the Central Investigation Directorate (DICRIM) in the Cienfuegos sector, belonging to the Santiago Oeste municipal district.
During the body removal process, National Police agents maintained constant surveillance on the perimeter of the forensic center. For their part, the deceased’s relatives chose to remain silent before the media, stating that any public statement would not change the situation. After completing the legal procedures, the body was transported to the community of Bijao, in San Francisco de Macorís, the deceased’s place of origin.
A history marked by multiple arrest warrants
Aracena Castillo was a priority target for the authorities, accumulating seven active arrest warrants. The investigations against him spanned a period between September 2023 and January 2026, linking him to highly serious crimes:
- Homicides: He was under investigation for the death of Darío Antonio Quiroz Peralta, which occurred in September 2023.
- Armed robberies: He faced charges for various heists, including incidents where motorcycles and personal belongings were stolen under threat of firearms.
- Attacks on authority: Notable is an event from January 1, 2026, where he allegedly participated in a shooting attack against a police patrol, resulting in the injury of officer Cristian Araujo Castillo.
In one of the most serious case files, it is detailed that during an assault, the individual allegedly held a man and his nine-year-old daughter at gunpoint using a pistol equipped with a high-capacity magazine.
Details of the operation in Cienfuegos
The outcome for “Bebeco” occurred when DICRIM units located his whereabouts in Cienfuegos. According to the official report, the young man allegedly met the officers with gunfire, which triggered an armed confrontation. Despite being transported to a medical center after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, the young man passed away shortly after.
The authorities have indicated that specific details regarding the police action and the circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation to clarify the events that occurred in the Santiago Oeste sector.
