UASD pays tribute to the memory of Amín Abel Hasbún

The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) held a solemn floral offering at the facilities of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture to commemorate the anniversary of the tragic assassination of student leader and engineer Amín Abel Hasbún, an event that marked national history on September 24, 1970.

This commemorative act is part of the institutional agenda with which the academy seeks to preserve the legacy and historical memory of someone who was a key figure in the country’s social and student struggles. The ceremony brought together a large representation of university authorities, faculty, students, the martyr’s family, and various personalities who gathered to honor his trajectory.

A legacy of constant struggle

During the meeting, the participants highlighted the courage and unwavering commitment of Abel Hasbún, whose life was dedicated to the defense of his ideals and the well-being of the university community. The event was led by the rector of the UASD, Jorge Asjana David, together with the deans and representatives of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, who reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to the values that the leader defended throughout his life.

The UASD keeps the memory of Amín Abel Hasbún alive, remembering his life and his legacy within the university as an example for new generations.

This ceremony, which has become a tradition within the university campus, took place before the bust erected in honor of Abel Hasbún, located in the faculty where he pursued his studies. Through these spaces, the university reaffirms its purpose of educating with historical awareness and respect for those who were a fundamental part of its institutional evolution.
